Being sixteen is hard for any boy. But getting through high school with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and a 50% hearing loss in both ears made it feel almost impossible some days.

But then what was possible for this boy was completely changed by fate. A year ago, his single mom was diagnosed with cancer. She lost her job as a cook and needed someone to care for her morning and night.

Her son rose to the challenge. Before his mother’s eyes, a young boy grew up quickly, as he balanced school, caregiving, housekeeping and encouraging his mother when she needed him most.

His care worked. Her cancer is in remission now. While sick and out of work, she cobbled together housing assistance from a number of agencies. But now the assistance has run dry as Mom desperately searches for a job.

Without help for the rent, they’ll lose their home and be forced into a shelter. Mom and son need to pay $1,950 rent by March 7. They’ve beaten such long odds. A few dollars from you right now – what you might spend on a cup of coffee or bottle of water – will help them win one more fight. Will you remember that cup of coffee? Will they ever forget staying in their home?

Father Bills & MainSpring has been moving people out of shelters and into homes since 1982 using an innovative Housing First strategy to end homelessness one life at a time.
