Two years ago, a mom and her three young children fled their home. Mrs. A’s husband had become abusive and she had had enough. The family sought refuge in a homeless shelter and began the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.
For two years, Mrs. A worked tirelessly to gain back her independence. While escaping the domestic violence was a challenge, what Mrs. A is most proud of is her strength and determination. Remarkably, within a year she was working full-time and had a home and car. Her family was happy and stable; her kids were growing up in a loving home.
But a few months ago, Mrs. A was laid off from her job. Proactively dealing with the situation, Mrs. A is taking classes to work in the healthcare industry, and she has adjusted her bill payment plan while she is unemployed. Despite these efforts, the debt is increasing and her electricity will soon be turned off if she cannot pay the bill.
While she remains optimistic that she will find a new job soon, she is very anxious with the thought of having her three young children live in a home with no electricity. $1,500 by January 1th will keep the lights on and a family feeling safe.
