When C escaped domestic violence she discovered another thing to run from: poverty. After living with her sister in a cramped apartment for a few months, she applied for a place in a women’s shelter. Granted a safe place to live and a case worker, C began to rebuild her life. She never imagined how difficult the transition from homelessness to gainful employment could be.
While her dream is to become a midwife, C plans to first secure an entry-level job in the medical field in order to gain experience and begin a new life for herself and her baby. However, C cannot afford tuition for the requisite job training program. The road ahead is discouraging when C seems surrounded by dead ends.
Funding this young mom’s dream sets in motion so many opportunities. C would ultimately like to become a midwife to Latina mothers, a combination of her career goals and the passion she has for her own culture, and she wants her baby to grow up in a home. That first tuition bill stands in the way.
Paying this bill means a triumphant survivor of domestic violence will be given a chance to make it on her own. C’s one year-old daughter will grow up in a home instead of in the constant traumatic flux of shelters, and her mother will be educated and financially independent. All it takes is $1,500 by April 20th to turn two lives around. Will you help?
