This family has been recommended by Cambridge Family & Children’s Service.

This Haitian family lives in Cambridge, not Port-au-Prince, but their world is falling in on them just the same. This is a single Mom with a big heart, two adult children and a 12-year-old daughter whose husband left when their daughter developed Asperger syndrome.

His inability to accept this diagnosis shattered the marriage, the family and the new life they had built together in America. Unable to afford a divorce lawyer, the Mom represented herself. And was left to juggle work and home without benefit of alimony.

The home she kept was cheerful, filled with the Spanish music she adores. And stories of the live music they used to go hear and life in Haiti surrounded by family and friends.

But the demand of taking time off from work for her daughter’s appointments with doctors and schools took its toll. She was fired from her job of 23 years with an insurance company.

Self-reliant and proud, she came to Cambridge Family & Children’s Services for help finding a job, dealing with her daughter’s developmental disability and navigating the process of getting her mortgage modified.

She is making progress on all three fronts, but money is running out. She’s behind on utility bills and facing foreclosure. Right now the family needs a financial bridge until she can land that new job.

Can you help her across that bridge? $1200 by March 26th will get her on firm ground. And her heart and her hard work will take her the rest of the way.
