Ms. F and her two daughters are a study in the value of a strong work ethic.

Her oldest is a criminal justice major at Mass Bay College and works part-time to pay for those studies. The younger daughter is a 10th grade honor student who loves history and dreams of a future that includes attending college on an academic scholarship. Ms. F sets the tone, working hard by day and taking GED courses by night.

Until quite recently, the three might do each other’s hair and nails for entertainment, or splurge for the occasional movie. They’d go to church on Sundays, and have big dinners with family and friends.

But then a microscopic virus entered their lives.

Ms. F has long suffered migraines, so when she began getting persistent headaches and a stiff neck, she didn’t think much of it. After a month of trying to fight it herself, she went to the hospital. She had spinal meningitis.

Between the time she needed to take for her hospitalization and the hours she needed to cut back on for her recovery, she began to slip behind in the rent. The budget, which was slim to begin with, snapped, and she fell two months behind in the rent.

Now the meningitis is gone, but the family faces eviction unless they can pay off that back rent. Just $1,900 by May 22nd will get them back on track. Can you help them get past this last hurdle on their way back to health as they knew it before the meningitis? Just a few dollars will help them get started. Their work ethic will take them the rest of the way.
