While mergers and acquisitions might be good news for stockholders and CEOs, they often leave people behind. That’s what happened to Ms. B, a single mom of four, who had a job in financial services before a merger made her a victim of downsizing.

With her unemployment benefits running out, her children’s father nowhere in the picture, and a loan nowhere to be found, Ms. B faces the prospect of having to put money previously budgeted for utilities towards arrearage, making heat in our upcoming New England winter impossible to afford. With a one-year-old just beginning to walk, a four-year-old who loves to swing, a 12-year-old who adores writing her own stories, and a 13-year-old who’s nuts about sports, this family is vibrant, tight-knit, and faith-filled, but soon they might be left out in the cold.

With just $1000 by October 20th, this family will be back on track. Ms. B is actively working on finding sustainable employment, and she’s worked with Travelers Aid Family Services in carefully reviewing her budget. With her training, planning and a little faith, the B family can make it through the winter. How can you bring some warmth into their lives? Every little bit counts.
