Crossroads Family Shelter has been assisting families struggling with the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency from the heart of East Boston since 1985.
Crossroads assists families struggling with homelessness by offering counseling, distributing donations, introducing public assistance programs and providing understanding for those burdened with this hardship.
Crossroads was established in 1985 by the Most Holy Redeemer parish and Father Barnard Mclaughlin. The doors first opened for a family displaced by a devastating fire and quickly expanded capacity and services in response to the growing phenomenon of family homelessness in East Boston. Over the past two decades, Crossroads has been a home to over 700 families with more than 1,500 children.
Today, Crossroads continues to support families as they overcome homelessness. Fifteen families share five bathrooms, two living rooms, a dining room, kitchen, playroom, library, nightly meals, stories, frustrations, dreams and inspirations. Individually, mothers and fathers battle road blocks to success and address the roots of their homeless experience to ensure stability for themselves and their children. The staff at Crossroads assists families in navigating the public assistance programs, seeking out and succeeding in educational and employment opportunities, and overcoming stress, trauma, and the heartache of homelessness.
Crossroads depends on the support of the community to assure the health, safety, comfort and success of families struggling with homelessness. Money, materials, time, and awareness are all appreciated.
